The elusive, famed director William Higgins has added another mysterious chapter to his legend. Longtime fans may know that he relocated to Prague years ago and opened a gay playground named Drake's. In recent years, he has been active in mentoring new directors, as well as producing and directing videos under the name Wim Hof, which is no big secret. The mysterious part is that someone decided to market Prague Buddies as Higgins' first feature film in over a decade. Huh? Perhaps they missed the one of his that was nominated for Best International video last year. Anyway, marketing and politics aside, let's talk about dick. Specifically, that of the uncut variety. There is plenty of it attached to young studly bodies in Prague Buddies. The heat is palpable in every scene, with most of them ending with double climaxes. A little more fine tuning would have pushed this one's ratings over the top. But as it is, the video is quite the sight to behold. An athletic fraternity outside of Prague houses the Prague Buddies. How convenient. There is a cool black-and-white filmed opening, with naked guys running and passing a torch. (A "sextathalon?"). Then we witness some official-looking track and field events. Later, a soldier approaches two athletes in the shower and talks them into leaving with him. They soon arrive at an abandoned building, which serves as the headquarters for the secret fraternity. There, a crowd of young men perform an initiation ceremony for the newcomers. After having beer poured on them, the neophytes are ordered to jerk off. Some hung members of the crowd join in the chicken-choking festivities. Hot stuff. Mouths may water (including yours), but the men keep a chaste distance while stroking. With about a dozen young studs beating off, the initiates are anointed with some of their cream to end the ceremony. We catch footage of a football game, played with uniforms and all. Later, a sexy soldier takes a cute, slightly injured player to a hot, young doctor. A little Ben Gay may come in handy while watching this scene. Ratings aside, it would also be nice to see them include some older European men for variety. I'm not necessary talking granddaddies but at least some men who look old enough to have been shaving for a few years. But that's just my predilection. (Going off on a tangent - I mean, who is telling the international directors that gay men are soley obsessed with boys in their late children? I mean, you can only enjoy so much chicken before you develop an appetite for some aged, prime beef. For once, I'd like to see a hot European video that says, "All Models over 25.") Leave it to award-winning, veteran gay porn auteur William Higgins to stage a comeback in which he practically reinvents the genre. "Prague Buddies" is much more than just another dip into the seemingly inexhaustible pool of beautiful Eastern European studs. It's destined to become a porn classic, and already deserves to be placed alongside Higgins' other outstanding work, which includes "The Young and the Hung" (Catalina Video). And "Prague Buddies" is -- dare I say it? -- fresh. A new approach to porn -- call it "Gay Romance Classics." With beautiful, golden videography by Pavel Nikos and Higgins' deft direction, and an outstanding cast of gorgeous, natural studs, all of whom ooze sensuality from their very pores, this is one of the best videos of this or any other year. The premise, which works very well in the context of the video, is the initiation of two new members into a secret male athletic fraternity. As you can imagine, there are lots of shower scenes, and enough gear to satisfy any athletic or military uniform fetish you can possibly imagine. From the first moments of the video, in which a totally nude, totally hot young man lights a torch, Olympic-like, and hands it off to the next relay runner (also totally buff and nude), the viewer knows this is not your average video. And it isn't. Higgins isn't afraid to let these guys look natural -- from their hairy balls and asses to their uncut dicks, the sweat that pops out on their bodies when they fuck and -- can you believe it? -- the mussed-up hair on their heads. There's no discernible eyeliner in this video, either, much to my delight. The two initiates into the "Prague Buddies" are darkly handsome Zdenek Romany and compactly built stud muffin Pavel Korsakov (who has one of the best asses of all time). Their initiation involves getting sprayed by beer, jerking off on their knees, then getting sprayed by cum from the uncut dicks of all the other members of the buddies. Hey, where do I sign up? The following scenes all begin in an athletic context and, except for one, they all end up with the guys fucking and sucking in different exterior locales. I'm telling you, abandoned barns and bombed-out buildings never looked so inviting. First is a physical therapist's office, where blond, movie-star handsome Mylan Forman has brought his buddy Vilen Zeman after Zeman suffered a sports injury. When hunky doctor Michael Holub takes Zeman back to the examining room he leaves Forman in the waiting room. The chemistry between these two actors is astounding -- the long sultry looks, the soft caresses, the urgent kisses, the way Kalvoda slowly fucks Korsakov's tight little butt -- I'm keeping the tape cued to this scene simply because it's one of the hottest interactions between two porn actors I've ever seen. Two more three-way scenes round out the video. The first is between longhaired Pavel Dubcek, initiates Zdenek Romany and Karel Pisek, winner of the lips-to-die-for award. "Prague Buddies" ends with a scene that is a set-up for a sequel, and for once, viewers will be left panting for more. I know I'm there. After more than ten years absence from directing, William Higgins has created a video that leaves you wanting much, much more. It's quite a comeback.
